Soft Molasses Cookies

Note: Mom found this recipe in Taste of Home. It quickly became one of our favorites.

1/2 C butter
1/2 C shortening (no margarine)
1-1/2 C sugar
1/2 C molasses
2 eggs, lightly beaten
4 C flour (Mom's note: less flour 1 C)
1/2 tsp salt
2-1/4 tsp baking soda
2-1/4 tsp ginger
1-1/2 tsp cloves
1-1/2 tsp cinnamon

Cream together butter, shortening, and sugar until they are colored and fluffy. Beat in molasses and eggs. Set mixture aside. Combine flour, salt, baking soda, ginger, cloves, and cinnamon. Add flour mix to cream ingredients. Roll into 1-1/2 inch balls. Dip in sugar. Bake 350 degrees for 11 minutes. Don't over-bake. Makes about 3 dozen.
